Mrs. Arpaio's 1st Grade Class

                                     Happy Summer

We had such a fun, exciting and successful first grade school year. We made lots of memories that I will cherish and look back on with smiles and laughter. Watching everyone grow from where we started in September has been awesome!!! I am amazed by our progress!!! Keep working hard over the summer though. Continue to practice your math facts for addition and subtraction. You need to read every day. You can read before bed, when you wake up in the morning, while laying outside...the possibilities are endless. I also suggest starting a writing journal that can help you record your summer adventures. I can't wait to see you again in September and hear about your summer!!!

                                    Summer Reading
Make sure to complete your summer reading assignments. Every received their packet and information before the last day of school. All summer reading assignments are due by Tuesday, September 10, 2019 to your teacher.

                                                Play, Learn and Grow Together

Welcome to our 1st grade site!!! Check out our calendar. You will find homework for our class posted, as well as events and activities going on in our classroom and at Harrison. Check back often for updates.

I'm looking forward to working with you and your child during the 2018-2019 school year. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Working together will give your child what he or she needs to become successful in first grade!!!

In order to get the most out of every school day, parents/guardians, we must have your cooperation. It is extremely important to make sure your child is at school no later than 8:30 am every day. This will ensure that your child will not miss a minute of instructional time.

Safety First

As many of our Harrison families know, dismissal is often a very busy time since students are eager to get home. Please be reminded as you send in your completed emergency cards to include ALL individuals who have permission to pick up your child from school. Even if there are not enough spaces for these contacts, please include them on the card where you find room. If a different person other than those listed on the emergency card is picking up your child, please provide a handwritten note that morning with the name of the person authorized to pick up. All of these extra precautions are an effort to ensure the safety of your children. Thank you for your continued cooperation!!!

                        Important Notice 1

Given the considerable rise in food allergies among school-aged children, the increasing rates of childhood obesity, and the loss of instructional time attributed to in class birthday celebrations, please be advised that beginning October 1, 2013, birthday celebrations involving food items will no longer be allowed in the classrooms.

To acknowledge your child's birthday we encourage you to send in non-food items (pencils, books, stickers, etc...). You may bring in a healthy treats to be distributed at dismissal time for the children to take home and eat at their parents' discretion. Thank you for your cooperation!!!

If you have any questions or concerns, please call Mrs. Nevarez at 908-298-2052, e-mail her at, or stop by her office.
